World We Dare to Imagine Part 1
World We Dare to Imagine Part 1
In a world that I dare to imagine, I would be Mr. Roger’s neighbor and everyone would be Mr. Rogers. Birds would never stop chirping, and yes, I mean day and night. They will never stop; I love birds chirping. People would be extremely friendly and there would be a powerful sense of community. People would greet each other with pleasantries in the street. “Good morning Tom! Wonderful weather we are having, innit!” You would hear that every morning and it would be true because the weather would always be wonderful. There would be an abundance of sunny, windless days. I would lie in the sun all afternoon and feel the sun on my arms. There would also be ice cream trucks and they would play really nice ice cream truck music and have really good ice cream, like peach or blackberry. And they would sell me frozen cookie dough to eat and nobody would say, “Hey, you’re gonna get salmonella.” We would have neighborhood barbecues. Sometimes there would be tacos instead of barbecue. My neighbor would have heat lamps and a koi pond so I can watch the fish swim. One of the fish would be really fat and the kids would laugh at how fat he is out of admiration.
There would be no hostility, just lots of nice Mr. Roger types. The mailman would be the friendliest of all. People would be extremely straightforward about how they feel and what they think. Everyone else would accept what they say because who cares honestly. Jazz music would play in most public spaces because why not, it’s quite pleasant. There’s lots of recreational spaces for soccer too.
Everything is environmentally positive. And there’s lots of green public spaces and flowers. All colors, especially blue and pink and white. I would have a garden like my grandma had and I would grow tomatoes and peppers and have neighborhood sales. I would paint rocks and leave them around town for kids to find like her too.
People would call each other even though they had nothing to say, just to say hello. Everyone would trust each other. And if I wanted someone to know I’m serious, I could offer a pinky swear and they would know I’m serious and honest. People would all like to meet new people and spend time together, dream together and make things happen. We would spend time to look up at the stars and the clouds.
My dog will probably live to be 60 or 70 years old I guess. Then again, how about my dog never dies and neither do I. Everyone can just live, I suppose. I have important business to attend to that can’t be bothered. There definitely wouldn’t be terrible diseases for people to suffer from. In fact, nobody will suffer at all. There will be no food or shelter insecurity and everyone will be in good health.
The most important thing in a perfect world that I dare to imagine is that we can all fly. Well, at least I can fly. I don’t really care if the rest of you can fly as much. Sorry but it’s a world I dared to imagine, not you.
Also, people will never go bald.
Hi Ethan,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post! It was nice imagining this perfect world that you wrote out very thoughtfully and descriptively. If only we could live in a world where we could live forever, have only sunny days everyday, with no diseases, and never being able to go bald. This is obviously a very optimistic view of what the world could become in the future, however, there are aspects of it that may become reality. The overall theme of you post was positivity and spreading it to others. That's why I believe the first step you can take in making the world a better place is by keeping a positive attitude no matter the circumstances or situation and spreading that positivity to others.

Hi Ethan!
ReplyDeleteI think that this idealistic view of the world is something that everyone had dreamed for at some point. But once we see the reality that we live in, those dreams are often trampled on. Honestly, I think that the biggest thing preventing people from being hopeful is the massive amount of inequality in this world. Some people live on a day to day basis, barely managing to survive, and others live comfortably without caring about the consequences of their actions. I feel like in order to create a perfect world like you dream of you would need to tackle those issues first. Maybe organizations that seek to advocate for workers' rights or that provide education to underprivileged people would work. There are so many ideas that would start to bridge this divide, and it's up to you to decide what you resonate with.

Hello Ethan,
ReplyDeleteI never really thought about a place like this that would ever exist. This must be because there is not a place like this that actually exist, but this truly would be the ideal world. However, I think it would be a little scary if everyone was actually nice and I would not know how to feel about it. The world truly be a better place if everyone else took each other's feelings into account and put their best foot forward, which is that Mr Roger's neighborhood sounds like.

Hi Ethan,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading what your idea of a better world looks like. My dad used to make a big deal about me saying hi to people I pass on the street. I always thought he was doing too much but I’ve realized how big of an impact such a quick greeting can have on someone’s day. My perfect day is laying in the sun too. The sun makes everything better. I also appreciate that your world values trust and being straightforward. I try to only say things I mean and mean what I say, though it can be hard when I’m trying to say things other people don’t really want to hear or I don’t think will be perceived well. Maybe your proposal can focus on community building or creating more communal outdoor spaces/activities? Excited to see what direction you take – you and Mr. Rogers' world sounds great. I also loved the ending lol.
